Keith Moon, drummer for the Who, drives Lincoln Continental into Holiday Inn pool

The English rock band The Who became known for their energetic live performances.  In 1964, Pete Townshend accidentally broke the head of his guitar during a performance.  For some time after that incident, the band became known for destroying instruments on stage.

It was on this day, August 24th, in 1967 that Keith Moon, the drummer for the Who, drove his Lincoln Continental into the swimming pool at the Holiday Inn in Flint, MI.

Moon performed this stunt in order to celebrate his 21st birthday.  The Holiday Inn staff, however, were less impressed by his car show than the other guests.  As a result, all of the band members were banned for life from all branches of the Holiday Inn chain.
