Jordan gains its independence from Britain.

Bordering Israel, Iraq, Syria, and Saudi Arabia is the Kingdom of Jordan. For almost 400 years Jordan was part of the Ottoman Empire, which ended in 1918. In 1922 Britain was given a protectorate status over Transjordan. Jordan has been home to many ancient cultures and kingdoms including: Canaanites, Kingdom of Edom, and the Kingdom of Moab.

On this day May 25th, in 1946, Jordan gains its independence from Britain. Its climate can get very arid, and during the winter it’s humid. It is separated by Israel by the Jordan River. As it has been for many years, 92% of its population is Muslim.

Jordan is home to one of the 7 wonders of the world, Petra. It is an ancient city; it was created round 600 BC, and with integrated a water conduit system. Like the Romans, water was transported throughout the city through pressurized system which pushed it directly to its citizens. Jordan also has access to the Dead Sea, the lowest point on earth, famous for its extreme saltiness and mud which is supposed to have rejuvenating qualities.
