Joe Nuxhall becomes the youngest pitcher in the history of the MLB

A 15 year old kid is usually a freshmen in high school.  When someone that young enters professional sports, it is a big story.  And back in 1944, when a young kid was called up due to player shortages during World War II, the sports world was fascinated.

It was on this day, June 10th, 1944, that Joe Nuxhall became the youngest pitcher in MLB history.  As a member of the Cincinnati Reds, Nuxhall pitched 2/3 of an inning at the tender age of 15 years and 10 months old.

The Ol’ Left-hander as he was called, had a solid MLB career, winning 135 games over the court of 15 years.  After his baseball career, Joe Nuxhall became a radio broadcaster for the Cincinnati Reds from 1967 through 2004.
