A new era in Dallas Cowboys football as Tom Landry is replaced by the one and only Jimmy Johnson.

The Dallas Cowboys are often referred to as America’s team, a title that can’t hold true if the Cowboys didn’t win. Legendary Cowboys coach Tom Landry brought two Super Bowl titles to Dallas.  And when he was ready to move on, another coach stepped in who carried on the Cowboys tradition.

It was on this day, February 25th, 1989, that Jimmy Johnson was named head coach of the Dallas Cowboys.  Jimmy would replace Tom Landry whom had coached the Cowboys for 29 years.

Jimmy Johnson started slow, leading the Dallas Cowboys to a 1 – 15 record in his first season.  However that would soon change, and Jimmy Johnson would later lead the Dallas Cowboys to two consecutive Super Bowl Victories. He is infamous for a line he had in the locker room after a victory in which he yelled “How About Them Cowboys!”
