Jim Morrison, lead singer of The Doors, passes away in Paris

“The Doors” captivated audiences in America in the 1960s with their controversial rock acts.  The lead singer, Jim Morrison, was wild and unpredictable, oftentimes improvising with spoken word poetry on stage.

On this day, July 3rd, in 1971, Morrison died of heart failure after excessive drinking. His girlfriend, Pamela Courson, found his body in the bathtub of his apartment in Paris.

By French law, no autopsy was ever performed because foul play was not suspected. Courson suspected he might have died of a heroin overdose. However, she has given mixed reports on the details of his death. At one point, she admitted fault in his death. Rumors and theories continue to be disputed.
