Jerry Rice Catches 101st Touchdown Pass

Jerry Rice is possibly the greatest wide receiver to ever play professional football.  In his 20 year career, Rice made a record 1,549 receptions, accumulated 22,895 receiving yards and caught 208 touchdown passes.

On this day, December 6th, in 1992, Jerry Rice caught his 101st touchdown, an NFL record. The 101st touchdown came against the the Miami Dolphins and broke the previous career touchdown  record held by Steve Largent.  Rice’s record breaking mark was reached in an astonishing 8 seasons, compared to Largent’s 14.

Rice not only went on to nearly double the receiving touchdown record, but in the process he also broke the all-time touchdown record for any non-quarterback position.  Jerry Rice was named to the Hall of Fame in 2010 and his jersey was retired by the San Francisco 49ers.
