Janis Joplin performs her first live concert at the Avalon Ballroom in San Francisco.

Janis Joplin was a one of a kind singer and songwriter. During her adolescent years she was deemed an outsider because of her personal beliefs and different lifestyle. Her career started off with her performing at bars and clubs and to her luck she got spotted by a promoter who worked for a well-known band of that time.  Big Brother and the Holding Company asked her to join the group and from there it all began for Janis.

On June 19th 1966, Janis Joplin performed her first live concert at the Avalon Ballroom in San Francisco.

Her career had been on the rocks since she joined the band because she had a drug abuse problem, predominantly heroin. Therefore she always had to have an eye kept on her especially during recording when it was important for her to fully be aware. She ended up going solo after a couple of successful years with Big Brother and the Holding Company. Ultimately her drug abuse would be her demise ending her life at the young age of 27.
