Hewlett-Packard Company, one of the first successful Silicon Valley companies, goes public

Silicon Valley is located in the Southern part of the San Francisco Bay Area. It has become known because it is home to some of the world’s largest technology companies. First named after the large presence of silicon chip innovators, the area now produces a variety of products in the high-tech sector.

On this day, November 6th, in 1975, Hewlett-Packard Company went public. The company was one of the first to be successful in the Silicon Valley.

Founded in the garage of Bill Hewlett and Dave Packard, the company was the world’s top PC manufacturer until 2010. HP markets its products primarily to households and small to medium sized businesses. Serving markets worldwide, the company earned revenue in 2011 exceeding $127 billion.
