Harvard Business School Established

Harvard University has always been one of the most prestigious names in education and Harvard’s famous business school is not an exception.  Although the history of Harvard dates back to the 1600s, the addition of the business school did not come in the early 20th century.

On this day, April 8th, in 1908, Harvard University established the Harvard Business School.  The first class at Harvard Business School (HBS) had 59 students, but by 1920, the class size reached 500.  The success of HBS was largely in part to the school’s innovative case method of research and teaching.  The method involves introducing a case to students and then placing the student in a decision maker role. In 1925, HBS moved to its current location in Allston, which is on the opposite side of the Charles River from the rest of the Harvard campus.

Harvard Business School continues to be one of the top business schools in the world with an MBA program that is ranked 1st by many polls.
