Guitarist Jeff Baxter quits band Steely Dan when other members decide to stop touring.

Responsible for helping to found Steely Dan, Jeff Baxter has been active in the rock music industry since the late 1960s. The guitar solo for the band’s hit single “Rikki Don’t Lose That Number” featured Baxter’s musical skills.

It was on this day, August 3rd, in 1974 that guitarist Jeff Baxter quit the band Steely Dan when the other founding members decided to stop touring.

After leaving the band, Baxter moved on to play for the Doobie Brothers. His jazzier guitar sound moved the Doobie Brothers in a new direction. He eventually left the touring band business in 1979 to continue on as a session guitarist. Ironically, this part of the business was the reason why he left Steely Dan only 5 years prior.
