The Green Bay Packers defeat the Kansas City Chiefs in the first Super Bowl Game

In the first Super Bowl, also known as the AFL-NFL’s world champion game of professional American football, the Green Bay Packers and the Kansas City Chiefs went head to head for the championship. The game was close early on, but eventually, the Packers started to pull away.

On this day, January 15th, in 1967 the Green Bay Packers defeated the Kansas City Chiefs 35-10. Receiver Max McGee was one of the stars with seven receptions for 138 yards and two touchdowns, while running back Bart Starr was awarded Most Valuable Player. Today the Packers are still known to be the team of the 60’s.

Only one team won the Super Bowl, but both teams and their players were paid a salary for their participation. The Packers were given $15,000 each and the Chiefs $7,500 each.
