The 5,000 Mile Great Wall of China is opened for tourists.

The Great Wall of China is one of the greatest wonders of the world. Construction on it first began over 2,500 years ago, and the wall as the enormous structure it is now was built by the first emperor of China, Qin Shi Huang.

On this day November 10th, in 1970, the Great Wall of China is opened for tourists. People from around the world come to visit this massive defensive wall. One of the most popular areas is the North Pass, which was the entrance to Beijing.

There were numerous purposes for this wall. First off, it kept nomad tribes and Mongolians from attacking the people, and it also allowed for China to control trade easier. It took incredible amounts of manpower to build this wall, and the materials used ranged from stone, brick, mud, and wood. The wall also was a symbol of the newly unified China.
