“Gilligan’s Island” TV pilot is first shown on television on the network TBS

Gilligan’s Island is an American television series that was created and produced by Sherwood Schwartz.  The comedy series stars Bob Denver, Alan Hale Jr., Jim Backus, Natalie Schafer, Tina Louise, Russell Johnson, and Dawn Wells.  The show featured the seven castaways’ comedic adventures as they tried to survive and eventually escape the island upon which they were stranded on due to their shipwreck.  Their escape plans usually led to failures for multiple reasons. It originally aired for three seasons on the CBS network from 1964 to 1967.

On this day, October 16th, in 1992, the pilot episode for the show Gilligan’s Island aired on TV with the CBS network.  Actors Denver and Hale filmed several short clips in their original Gilligan and Skipper outfits in an attempt to promote their show’s reruns on TBS.  However, the show did not do as well as it did back in the sixties.
