The Patriots lose to the Giants in the Super Bowl – ending their quest for a perfect 19 – 0 season.

No NFL team has ever went 19 – 0 in an NFL season.  Many thought the perfect 19 game season would never be achieved.  However, Tom Brady, Randy Moss, and Bill Belicheck came into Super Bowl XLII with an 18 – 0 record and they were heavily favored to beat the New York Giants.

It was on this day, February 3rd, 2008, that the New York Giants shocked the world and defeated the New England Patriots by a score of 17 – 14.  The game is considered one of the greatest sporting events ever played as the Giants scored the game winning touchdown on their final drive.  They were aided by a once in a lifetime catch by David Tyree in which he trapped the ball against his helmet to hold onto the ball.

The Giants got into the playoffs with a 10 – 6 record via a wild-card slot. No one had thought the Giants had a chance to make the Super Bowl – let alone defeat the invincible Patriots. Eli Manning took home Super Bowl MVP honors, however it was the Giants’ defense who did the unthinkable when they held one of the greatest offenses in NFL history to a mere 14 points.
