NFL kickers are one of the most under-appreciated positions in sports. Entire games are played and often, the outcome is determined by the foot of a kicker. And never was this more evident that in Super Bowl XXV.
It was on this day, January 27th, in 1991, that Scott Norwood missed a potential game winning field goal for the Buffalo Bills. The kick was missed as time expired giving the New York Giants a Super Bowl win.
The 47 yard attempt had more than enough distance but it was wide right. The Giants won the game 20 – 19 and the Bills lost their first of 4 Super Bowls in a row. In 2011, the Bills honored Norwood with the Ralph C. Wilson Jr. Distinguished Service Award.
