Cartoonist Gary Larson finishes the last “Far Side” cartoon, which he started in 1980

The Far Side cartoon is the single panel comic that addresses world issues, logical fallacies, mundane details of everyday life, and serious situations through insightful humor.

On this day, January 1st, in 1995, Gary Larson finishes writing The Far Side and it was not long after that the San Francisco Chronicle and the Universal Press syndicated the comics. The Far Side appealed to millions of viewers and was later found in over 1,900 daily newspapers and in 17 languages. In 1994, it was televised on numerous networks and featured similar humoristic styles found in newspapers.

In addition, The Far Side is the first comic to be collected in small books and rated as New York Times Best Seller.
