Frank Sinatra debuts on the radio show “Your Hit Parade,” which starts his singing career.

Frank Sinatra was a tenacious man who knew from an early age that he was meant to be a singer. At age 19, he joined a local band called The Hoboken Four, but its slow progress was not acceptable to Sinatra. After a year or so, the ambitious, young man ventured on a solo path.  His talent earned him a great deal of exposure and many vocalist jobs at such venues as the Hippodrome Theatre and the Rustic Cabin.

On this day, January 6th, in 1943, Frank Sinatra launches his singing career as the star vocalist on the CBS radio show Your Hit Parade. He appeared regularly to sing the most popular songs of the week. Unfortunately, Frank Sinatra was fired because he added his own spin on the #1 song of the week. His supervisor was displeased, but rehired Sinatra a year later.

Sinatra died on May 14, 1998 at age 82 from a heart attack. His six-decade career will always be remembered, and he will always hold the title as the most outstanding singer of the 20th century.
