France defeated Brazil 3 – 0, to win the World Cup of Soccer in front of a home crowd in Saint-Denis

The 1998 world cup was a memorable one.  France has never before won a World Cup, and being the host country, there was added pressure on the team.

It was on this day, July 12th, 1998, that France defeated Brazil 3 – 0 to win its first ever World Cup.  In Stade de France, Paris – the French team dominated Brazil by a score of 3 – 0.  Legendary player  Zinedine Zidane scored the first two goal and France knocked in a third in the final minutes of the contest.

France struggled to get by Croatia by a score of 2 – 1 in the semi-finals match.  Falling behind by a goal before Lilian Thuram scored two goals to give France the lead.  And in the round before the semis, France and Italy finished in a scoreless tie, but France advanced on penalty kicks.  So the French team did what they had to do in front of a raucous home crowd to give the fans the time of their lives.
