The Florida Gators defeat Ohio State to claim the NCAA title for the second year in a row.

In sports, a team has to be exceptionally great to become repeat champions.  After winning a championship, every other team tries to knock off last season’s champion.  For this reason, it is extremely rare for a team to win back-to-back titles.

It was on this day, April 2, in 2007, that the Florida Gators defeated Ohio State to win the NCAA title for the second year in a row.  Head Coach Billy Donovan led a team of players who selflessly gave up the chance to play in the NBA in exchange for another shot at the title.

All five starters from the previous season helped Florida knock off Ohio State in the title game.  The Buckeyes were led by center Greg Oden, who would be the No. 1 overall pick in the upcoming NBA draft.  While Florida’s Corey Brewer was named the most outstanding player of the tournament, it was a true team effort.  Gators forwards Joakim Noah and Al Horford dominated the paint on both ends of the floor and would go on to become NBA All-Stars after their college careers were over. Brewer also went on to enjoy success in the NBA.
