Fleetwood Mac’s single “Dreams” hits number one on the pop music charts.

Fleetwood Mac is a British-American rock band formed in 1967.  Mick Fleetwood is the drummer, and the other members include John McVie, Lindsey Buckingham, and Stevie Nicks.  The band’s most successful period occurred between the British blues boom in the late 1960s with their song “Albatross,” and from 1975 to 1987, where they were more pop-oriented.

It was on this day, June 18, 1977, that Fleetwood Mac’s single “Dreams” hit number one on the pop music charts.  “Dreams” was written by Stevie Nicks and featured on their album Rumors.  Nicks wrote the song in ten minutes after finding a drum pattern that worked for her.  The song went on to remain at No. 1 on the American charts for an astonishing 31 weeks and resulted in over 40 million copies of the album being sold worldwide.

Since then, the band has broken up and gotten back together.  In 2011, Nicks announced that Fleetwood Mac would be going on tour again in 2012 and possibly releasing a new album.
