Walmart is the 18th largest public corporation in the world, according to the Forbes Global 2000 list. When ranked by revenue, Walmart is considered the largest public corporation.

It was on this day, July 2nd, in 1962 that the first Walmart opened its doors in Rogers, Arkansas.

This first “Wal-Mart Discount City” store as it was first called was located at 719 Walnut Avenue. Now, the building exists as a hardware store and an antique mall. In the first five years, the company expanded to open 24 stores all across Arkansas. Currently, there are 8,500 stores operating in 15 countries under 55 different names.
