Seven seasons of the drama series Fantasy Island aired on ABC Network. Fantasy Island is a resort that fulfills the wild dreams of its visitors for a price. At the beginning of each 60-minute episode, two guests would fly in to the resort with intentions to live out their dream; instead, they would get an unexpected surprise.

On this day, January 28, in 1978, the pilot of Fantasy Island airs on ABC television. The guests’ fantasies ranged from a woman attending her funeral to a man reliving a past romance. The resort’s host, Roarke, taught the visitors lessons about themselves while exposing their faults and granting unanticipated wishes.

The series was revived in 1998, also on ABC, but after an unsuccessful first season, the reboot was terminated.
