On this day, February 15th, in 1931, Universal Pictures release Dracula, the classic American horror film. The storyline taken from the novel, written by Bram Stoker in 1897, launched the monster genre at Universal Pictures, but segments of it were censored in Britain due to the demonic gestures.

Dracula is a well-known masterpiece of its genre and time period. Today, the National Film Registry and the Library of Congress preserve the film. Also, there have been many adaptations, parodies, sequels, and farces of Dracula, some faithful to the original novel and others not.
