The film “ET” is released to home video

E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial is an American science fiction movie produced and directed by the legendary Steven Spielberg.  It centers around  Elliot, a boy who befriends an extraterrestrial called “E.T.” who is left stranded on Earth.   Elliot and his siblings try and help E.T. return to where he came from without their mother finding out.

It was on this day, October 27, 1988, that the film ET was released to home video.  The movie was priced at $24.95 and became the best-selling videocassette ever.  The film even surpassed Star Wars and became the highest-grossing film of all time for eleven years.  People loved it especially because it told the story of extraterrestrial life in a non-threatening way and is believed to be one of the greatest science fiction films ever made.  The timeless story of friendship won four Academy Awards for Best Original Score, Best Sound, Best Sound Effects Editing, and Best Visual Effects.
