The FBI launched an investigation to determine if Rupert Murdoch’s British tabloid newspaper hacked voicemails of victims of the 9/11 attacks

Born and raised in Australia, Rupert Murdoch is a symbol in media whose influence has stretched from Australia to New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and the United States. He is the founder of the second largest media conglomerate in the world, News Corporation, and he also has acquired several other smaller news publications.

It was on this day, July 14th, in 2011 that the FBI launched an investigation to determine if Rupert Murdoch’s British tabloid newspaper hacked voicemails of victims of the 9/11 attacks.

Murdoch’s News of the World was alleged to have been regularly hacking the private phones of celebrities, royals, and public citizens. Murdoch apologized to the public, but he denied previous knowledge about the hackings.
