The Associated Press gets many people excited about the beginning of e-readers, devices dedicated entirely for digital books

E-readers changed the way that the public viewed reading when electronic devices were dedicated entirely to digital books. The technology of electronic ink mimics like words on a page, but the display is easier to read outside in the sun.

It was on this day, August 30th, in 1998 that the Associated Press got many people excited about the beginning of e-readers.

Sales for e-book readers worldwide increased to 12.8 million, according to an IDC study in 2011. Nearly half of the models were Amazon Kindles, and the other half came from Barnes & Noble, Pandigital, Hanvon, and Sony Readers. A cheaper cost of books and increased portability are the most attractive features of e-reader devices.
