In the 50’s, Dragnet become one of the most popular TV-series in history.  The show, which also aired on radio, was a crime drama centered around a Los Angeles police officer named Joe Friday.

It was on this day, January 3rd, in 1951 – that Dragnet was first broadcast on NBC.

The show had so much success that a remake was made from 1966 – 1970.  There was also a Dragnet movie made in 1998 starring Dan Aykroyd and Tom Hanks.
