Don Juan, first talkie movie with John Barrymore, is first shown

Numerous authors and film producers have written about the legendary Spanish romantic, Don Juan.  Since the 17th century, versions of the character have appeared in plays, films, novels, and poems.

It was on this day, August 6th, in 1926 that the film Don Juan, starring John Barrymore, was released in New York City.

Although the film had no spoken dialogue, it was the first feature-length film with synchronized sound effects and a musical soundtrack.  John Barrymore, as the womanizing Don Juan, set the record for the largest number of kisses on a film set.
