LA Dodgers defeat Chicago Cubs after 21 innings of play that started previous day

The Cubs baseball team is known for sustaining a longer championship drought than any other major North American professional sports team. “The Lovable Losers,” as they are sometimes called, have not won the World Series in 103 years.

On this day, August 18th, in 1982, The Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Chicago Cubs in a game that had started the day before. The game lasted a total of 21 innings.

The game, starting on August 17th, was suspended after the 17th inning because of darkness. It came to an end the next day when the Dodgers scored a final run, finishing 2—1. This game is still the longest match every played at Wrigley Field.
