Discovery buys Travel channel for $20 milllion

The Travel Channel is known for promoting luxurious resorts in the tropical islands of the Caribbean, different delicacies from across the world, and even tourist friendly activities. It serves as a televised tour guide for anyone planning to travel abroad or simply interested in learning about different cultures.

On this day, September 10th, in 1997, Discovery Channel purchases 70 percent of the Travel Channel and two years later the rest of it. Unfortunately, Travel Channel was owned by Discover for only ten years before being sold to Cox Enterprises for an enormous amount.

Although Discovery was no longer owner of the channel, its name was still broadcasted on all shows aired on the Travel Channel.
