Derek Jeter dives head first for foul ball against Red Sox – big place in Yankees history

Great players are often associated with a few special moments.  It is these moments that withstand the test of time
and help to build ones legacy.

It was on this day, July 1st, 2004, that Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter dove head first into the crowd to attempt to catch a foul ball.   Jeter emerged from the crowd with a bloody face, and his place as a Yankees immortal was sealed forever.

Adding to the drama of the play was the fact that it occurred against the hated Red Sox.  In addition to this play, Jeter
is remembered for other plays including hitting a home run for his 3,000th hit at Yankee Stadium, and the flip play
against the A’s in the post-season.
