David Wells, of the Yankees, pitched the 15th perfect game in baseball history.

David Wells was a fiery pitcher and one of the most talked about players of all-time.  And while he had an up and down career, he did have a flare for the dramatic.

It was on this day, May 17th, 1998, that David Wells of the New York Yankees pitched a perfect game.  It was the 15th perfect game in MLB history.

Wells had the performance against the Minnesota Twins at Yankee stadium.  Wells always maintained that he threw the perfect game with a hangover after being out the night before.  Amazingly, later in that same season, Wells almost threw a second perfect game against the Oakland A’s.
