Dave Steib First No Hitter for Blue Jays

Right-handed pitcher Dave Stieb played nearly 20 years of baseball for the Toronto Blue Jays and in doing so, had an outstanding career.  Stieb recorded 1,669 strikeouts and 176 wins in his career.  His 7 All Star appearances also added to the legitimacy of his career.  In many ways, Stieb’s place in baseball history can be found in a single game performance in 1990.

On this day, September 2nd, in 1990, pitcher Dave Stieb pitched the first ever no-hitter in Blue Jays’ history.  The no-hitter came against the Cleveland Indians with a final score of 3-0.  Stieb’s attempts at history had been derailed twice before in 1988 with late 9th inning hits.

Dave Stieb was the second winningest pitcher in the 1980s and still holds records for Toronto wins, shutouts and strikeouts.  Stieb celebrated the 20th anniversary of his no-hitter by throwing the first pitch on August 29, 2010.
