The Color Computer 2 (Coco2) is announced by Radio Shack

The TRS-80 Color Computer (CoCo) by Radio Shack was a home computer launched in 1980. It was a first generation and one of the first home computers for English-speakers. It had a silver-grey case with a Chiclet keyboard that resembled a calculator. For display purposes, it used a TV display and came in 4K, 16K, and 32K memory sizes.

It was on this day, September 9, 1983, that the Color Computer 2 (Coco2) was announced by Radio Shack. Its case was shortened by about 25% and a smaller supply and motherboard was also incorporated. The computer was fully compatible with the previous generation; the only difference was the new look and deletion of a 23 volt power supply to an extension connector. The CoCo 2 was in production from 1983 to 1986 until it was succeeded by the CoCo 3. CoCo enthusiasts still try and play around with the CoCo models to this day, but their commerciality was obscured by the IBM PC clones.
