Ciudad Juárez, a Mexican border town, is founded by Fray Garcia de San Francisco.

Fray Garcia is the founder of numerous places in Mexico. As well, there are a number of plaques and statues dedicated to him. Born in Spain, Garcia came to Mexico in 1629. After serving a number of years in New Mexico, he became a Franciscan priest.

On this day December 8th, in 1659, Ciudad Juárez is founded by Fray Garcia. Ciudad Juárez was originally known as Paso del  Norte, The Passage of the North. The plaque which commemorates Garcia uses the original title. Ciudad Juárez is a city within the state of Chihuahua. Chihuahua has a total population of 3.4 million, Ciudad Juárez  has 1.3 million.

Ciudad Juárez is a border town to the United States. It has been called one of the fastest growing cities in the world, while simultaneously being considered one of the most dangerous places to be outside of a declared war zone. This is primarily due to the drug wars involved with Mexican cartels.
