Shortly after marrying Fleetwood Mac bass guitarist, John McVie, Christine McVie joins band

Christine McVie had some experience in music after college, but her real fame did not come until she married the Fleetwood Mac bass guitarist, John McVie. The couple met while Christine was touring with her band, the Chicken Shack.

On this day, August 7th, in 1970, Christine McVie joined the band Fleetwood Mac as a singer, songwriter, and piano player.

Christine’s song “Over My Head” was the first to play on American radio station, and it put the band into the national Top 20 charts. Other star hits of hers included “You Make Loving Fun’ and “Say You Love Me.” Her song with the greatest acclaim, “Don’t Stop,” peaked at third on the charts.
