At 86 years of age and in a wheelchair, slapstick legend Charlie Chaplin is knighted by Queen Elizabeth for his contributions to film

Till this day we see imitations and influences of the “Little Tramp” character. Why wouldn’t we? Seeing as Charlie Chaplin’s recurring character was one of the first big Hollywood characters out there, it’s no surprise that modern comedians still pay tribute to the great silent film star.

On this day, March 4th , 1975, at the 86 years and in a wheelchair, Charlie Chaplin was knighted by Queen Elizabeth for his contributions to film. He may now be referred to as Sir Charles. According to Queen Elizabeth, his films were something to be honored and it had been long overdue since the proposition had been brought up many years before.

Along with his many honors and accolades, Chaplin was ranked the 10th greatest male screen legend of all-time and he received a star on Hollywood’s Wall of Fame.
