CBS broadcasts first commercial color television show

On this day, February 25th, in 1951, CBS Networks airs an hour of color programming for the first time. Premiere, the program aired, starred numerous entertainers such as Ed Sullivan, Sam Levenson, Arthur Godfrey, and Faye Emerson. However, only viewers from Boston, Philadelphia, Baltimore, and Washington D.C. had the pleasure of watching Premiere in color because most people at the time only had black-and-white televisions.

Some people still bought black-and-white TVs going into the 80’s, but eventually black-and-white programs were no longer offered which forced many to buy color TVs or go without.
