Cavs Beat Heat by over 60 Points – an NBA Record

Even in professional sports, there are games where athletes are completely outperformed.  Basketball is an especially streaky sport, so it is not unfamiliar for teams to win by large margins while having a great shooting night.  The Cleveland Cavaliers showed one of the greatest examples of this fact in 1991.

On this day, December 17th, in 1991, the Cleveland Cavs beat the Miami Heat by 68 points.  The lopsided victory became an NBA record for the largest margin of victory in history.  After scoring 75 points and having a 20 point lead at halftime, the Cavaliers brought the final score tally to 148-80.

The previous record for largest victory was set in 1972 by the Los Angeles Lakers, who beat the Golden State Warriors 162-99.
