Jose Canseco and Mark McGwire are issued subpoenas to testify about steroid use in baseball

The steroid era in Baseball was fun for fans.  Home run records were shattered year after the year, and ratings for the Sport of Baseball were at all-time highs.  But these records were being broken because of cheating, and when the public found out about this – people were angry.

It was on this day, March 9th, 2006 that Jose Canseco and Mark McGwire were issued subpoenas to testify.  Congress wanted to step in to uncover what actually had happened with Baseball so they subpoenaed several players who had been rumored to be involved with steroids to testify about its use in Baseball.

Canseco readily admitted his steroid use, he also threw several other players under the bus in his famous book titled Juiced.  However, other players, such as McGwire would never admit using steroids.  And at the congressional hearing, McGwire famously dodged questions from congressmen, as he continued to say “I’m not here to talk about the past”.
