The biggest boxing upset in history – Buster Douglas knocks out Mike Tyson in the 10th round.

Mike Tyson was one of the most devastating boxers in the history of the sport.  People feared him, and many thought that he would never be defeated.  And when Tyson fought Buster Douglas in Tokyo – the boxing world paid little attention to the fight.   Mike Tyson was a 42 – 1 favorite at the Mirage in Las Vegas and many thought Tyson was fighting Douglas to prepare with for a fight against Evander Holyfield.

It was on this day, February 11th, 1990, that Buster Douglas shocked the world and knocked out Mike Tyson.  In the 10th round, Douglas hit Tyson with a barrage of punches which knocked Tyson down for the first time in his career.  Tyson was unable to get up during the 10 second count, and Douglas secured the victory.

The match is still talked about today as being one of the biggest upsets in boxing history. Before the fight, hardly anyone knew who Buster Douglas was, but after the victory, he became instantly famous.  He even had a video game named after him that was called “James ‘Buster’ Douglas Knockout Boxing.”
