Bucky Dent Game Winning HR

While its impossible for every player to be of future Hall of Fame caliber, it does not mean that they cannot make invaluable contributions to their team.  One such player is Bucky Dent, who made a history changing play for the New York Yankees on the biggest stage of them all.

On this day, October 2nd, in 1978, Bucky Dent broke the heart of Red Sox fans by hitting a game hitting home run for the New York Yankees.  At the time, the Yankees were trailing 2-0 against the Red Sox in the 1978 AL East division playoff game.  Bucky’s homer brought in three runs and gave the Yankees the lead.  Bucky’s power shot was especially impressive, because the shortstop was in no way a power hitter.  The Yankees won the game and secured the AL division title.

The Yankees went on to win the World Series that year with a great contribution from Bucky.  Dent hit .417 in the World Series and earned MVP honors for his effort.
