Brett Favre Signs with the Minnesota Vikings

Few NFL quarterbacks receive seemingly unconditional love from their fans, but for Brett Favre’s 15 year stretch with the Green Bay Packers, this seemed to be exactly the case. From 1992-2007, the Packer faithful supported Favre and his numerous playoff runs.  As Favre’s career was apparently coming to an end, the future hall of fame quarterback made a decision that startled and angered many of his long-time followers.

On this day, August 18th, in 2009, Brett Favre signed a $25 million deal with the Minnesota Vikings.  The deal with the Vikings was shocking for two reasons; first, Favre had reportedly retired from football at the end of the 2008-2009 season and second, the Vikings were the Green Bay Packers division rival.

Favre’s year with the Vikings surprisingly resulted in one of his best years as an NFL quarterback.  In the 2009-2010 season, Favre led his team to a 12-4 record and his 11th Pro Bowl appearance.
