Braves Defeat Indians, Win First World Series

The History of the Braves as a baseball franchise is quite extensive with the name first being used in 1876.  During the Braves’ early years in Boston and Milwaukee, the team was able to win two World Series Championships, but after relocating to Atlanta in 1966, the team would not be able to reclaim championship glory for nearly 30 years.

On this day, October 28th, in 1995, the Braves defeat the Indians in Game 6 of the 1995 World Series.  All six games between the Braves and Indians were closely contested as five of the six games were decided by one run.  Game 6 was a notable pitching battle between Tom Glavine and Jim Poole.  Glavine of the Braves only allowed one hit in the game and the Braves went on to win 1-0.

The 1995 victory was the Braves’ first World Series win in Atlanta, but it was also the city of Atlanta’s first championship in any major sport.  Tom Glavine was named World Series MVP.
