The Boston Bruins beat the St. Louis Blues in to win the team’s first Stanley Cup since 1941.

Overtime playoff hockey is riveting.  It is sudden death hockey, as the next goal scored results in the game ending.  When this sudden death format is applied to a Stanley Cup clinching game, it is epic.

It was on this day, May 10th, 1970, that the Boston Bruins defeated the St. Louis Blues to win the Stanley cup.  The Bruins swept the Blues and game 4 was won in overtime on a goal by Bobby Orr.

It would be the Bruins first Stanley Cup victory in 29 years.  And it cemented Bobby Orr’s legacy as one of the greatest Boston Bruins of all-time.  In 1979, at the young age of 31, Bobby Orr was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame.
