The city of Beaver, Utah is founded by Latter Day Saints.

Joseph Smith is the founder of the Latter Day Saint Church, or better known as Mormonism. He is now considered a prophet to Mormons, and the Mormon capital of the world is Utah, primarily Salt Lake City though. As of 2007 over 60% of Utah was associated or part of the Latter Day Saint Church.

On this day January 5th, in 1856, the city of Beaver, Utah is founded by Latter Day Saints. The entire country is called Beaver Country, as you may guess, because of the large amount of beavers found here. As of 2010 there were 6,229 people that lived in Beaver, certainly a small town.

At one point though, Beaver was a relatively bustling country with the culmination of mining, transportation, and agriculture – commerce was primarily with Salt Lake City. In 1873 Fort Cameron was built two miles from Beaver to aid against Native American raids and to bring to justice those responsible for the Mountain Meadow Massacre. Innocent families travelling from Arkansas were attacked and killed a militia led by Isaac C. Haight and John D. Lee, their intent was for it to appear as if tribes had done this terrible crime.
