Shindig! is an American musical variety series that aired from September 16, 1964, to January 8, 1966.  The show aired on ABC with half-hour episodes every week.  The premiere episode featured Sam Cooke and The Righteous Brothers and their episodes continued to broadcast from London.  The success that Shindig! brought to NBC prompted it to air Hullabaloo, a similar series that started in January 1965.

On this day, December 23, in 1963, the Beach Boys appear on the show for the first time.  Shindig! has had many popular performers over the years, including The Beatles, Sonny and Cher, The Rolling Stones, The Ronettes, Elvis Presley, and more.

The show began having ratings problems by October of 1965 and by January 1966, Shindig! was cancelled and replaced by Batman.
