The Batman movie, with Jack Nicholson and Michael Keaton, is released in theaters

Batman: The movie centers on the fictional superhero Batman and his journey to save innocent civilians from the evil acts of the Joker.

On this day, June 23rd, in 1989, the 50-year-old comic book character, Batman, is reinvented in Batman: The Movie starring Jack Nicholson and Michael Keaton. Michael Keaton plays the character of Bruce Wayan who is Gotham City’s enigmatic millionaire by day and the super hero Batman by night. Jack Nicholson stars as Gotham City’s brilliant criminal, the Joker, that wears a clown-white mouth with a permanent upside down painted grin.

With superb production, Batman: The Movie won an Academy Award for Best Art Direction and broke box office records across the U.S. grossing over $400 million.
