Barry Bonds 71 Home Runs

Baseball fans follow their favorite teams and players for a variety of reasons, but most would agree that one of the most exciting parts of the game are home runs.  The MLB’s big time sluggers are always fan favorites and are known for their ability to change a game with one swing.  One of professional baseballs most notable home run greats is Barry Bonds.

On this day, October 5th, in 2001, Barry Bonds broke Mark McGwire’s home run record by hitting his 71st home run of the season.  Bonds had tied McGwire’s record the previous day and hit the record breaking shot against Yankees picture Chan Ho Park.  Bonds hit one more home run before the end of the game, bringing his season total to 72.

Bonds finished the season with a record 73 home runs.  Many believe that Bonds’s home run mark will never be broken.
