Forming a $350 Billion media and internet conglomerate – AOL and Time Warner announce the largest merger ever – creating AOL-Time Warner.

AOL achieved much popularity at the dawning of the Internet age with its online software suite. At its peak, AOL claimed to have 34 million subscribers to its services. By 2010, however, AOL’s subscriber rates had dropped to 4.4 million.

It was on this day, January 10th, in 2000 that AOL and Time Warner announced they would be forming the largest merger ever to create AOL-Time Warner.

The merger created a $350 billion media and Internet conglomerate. However, in 2009, Time Warner announced that AOL would split off and become a separate public company because the merger turned out to be not profitable.
